Recovery After Laser Pilonidal Sinus Treatment
One of the biggest advantages of laser treatment (FiLaC/SiLaC) over open surgery is the dramatically faster recovery. Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days and are fully healed within 2–4 weeks.
Day of Procedure
- Procedure takes 20–40 minutes under local or spinal anaesthesia
- You go home the same day (day-care procedure)
- Most patients rate discomfort as 2–3/10
- Rest at home; avoid sitting directly on the wound
Week 1 (Days 1–7)
- Return to desk work: Day 3–5 (most patients)
- Avoid prolonged sitting — use a donut cushion
- Change dressing once daily
- High-fibre diet to avoid constipation
Week 2 (Days 8–14)
- Swelling and bruising significantly reduced
- Most patients are fully back to desk work
- Light exercise (walking) is fine
- Continue daily dressing changes
Weeks 3–4
- Wound is nearly or fully closed
- Return to gym and light exercise
- Begin laser hair removal in the natal cleft area
